Sunsafe DHHB (Diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate) is a UV filter with high absorption in the UV-A range. Minimizing the overexposure of human skin to ultraviolet radiation that may lead to acute and chronic photodamage, Sunsafe DHHB is an oil-soluble UV filter that may be incorporated in the oil phase of emulsions.

EDmaRC has found the following “Biomonitoring studies show that over 90% of the Danish population excretes UV filters in their urine not only during the summer period but throughout the whole year. It is caused by the wide industrial use of UV filters, not only in sunscreens but also in many other everyday consumer products, such as personal care products, food packaging, furniture, clothes, detergent, toys, cleansing agents and many others. Widespread use of UV filters is caused by their unique properties to protect colors from blushing and to protect plastic from melting due to sun exposure.”

Sunsafe DHHB was approved in Europe in 2005, and is also marketed in the U.S., South America, Mexico, Japan and Taiwan. It has a chemical structure similar to the classical benxophoenone drug class, and displays good photostability. It is used in concentrations up to 10% in sunscreen products, either alone or in combination with other UV absorbers. It is very photostable and provides strong UVA protection.

It also has good solubility, excellent formula flexibility, and good compatibility with other UV filters and cosmetic ingredients. Sunsafe DHHB provides excellent free radicals protection and is ideal for long-lasting sun care and anti-aging face care products.
